So im taking a class on Christian Worl views and of course I;m the only one in the class who doesnt beleive in a supernatual being in the sky. One of our disscussion questions was this....
What one believes about God is perhaps the most important and foundational belief of a worldview. After completing the readings, address how a belief in God would impact a Christian worldview. What does a Christian worldview believe about God and why is that important for one's daily life?
My Response: Im sure it has become known in this class that I have a more Naturalism point of view when it comes to what we are and how we got here. In the sense of why I believe a God is important to the Christian worldview is because it gives them a reason to live. I agree with Carl Sagan when he says "the cosomos is all that is or ever was or ever will be." I am a big believer in the idea that we are all made of star dust and when we die we return to our natural state. If the Christian's did not have a God to follow, rules and morals set in words, they would be lost. They would doubt their exsistance and purpose, this would cause them to think outside of what is written in the Bible and to question its truth. (which I think Naturalist do) The Christian worldview believes that God is the creator of the universe, of everything and anything. You are to believe in the Bible and follow the morals and life guide set by it, you are not to question it for you could be seen as having lack in faith. It all ties into a big picture really.
In my opinion, the big picture is a never seen supernatural being created the universe, created man and everything we know. Then as the people were made they chose to use their freedom of choice to eat from a tree that gave them insight to more emotions than what they had in the beginning. Through out time God "spoke" to a select few and expressed his plans for giving the people he created a chance for forgivness. Then years go by and he sacrafices his only son to the world to save his own creation from sin. Then after his son; Jesus, is condemmed and killed he rises from the dead and helps to forgive humans for their sins. Then life goes on and neither Jesus or God is seen again, but only worshiped in homes built to praise them and to beg for forgiveness.
On a side note, I was watchin a show (Dr.Who), and it gave a great example in how I view the Christian Worldview. The man fell to the center of the earth, and there was the "Devil", he read the story of how the Devil was sent to the center of the earth and realized what he really was. The devil, and God, are ideas made by man, they only live in the idea and are feared by the idea of them.
The reason why God is so important in the Christian world view is becasue without him there would be an individual chaos. Christians are claimed to be "Christ-Like" and follow their lives by the morals and rules set forth by the Bible. They follow a path of hope for eternal life with God when their physical life is over on earth.
I am a Naturalist to a point, I do not belive in a supernatural being in the sky who created everything, I beleive the Bible is just a story written to control the masses from Chaos and questioning. Weither you believe in the Christian worldview or not, is an idividual choice, you can follow the masses or question everything.
What do you think?
